I am pleased to hear that South Korea is so happy with their development model but Sri Lanka’s development model is different and I do not believe that it will take 60 years for us to reach a 20K median income. South Korea as every sovereign nation has its own limits but they differ greatly with those of Sri Lanka. I truly enjoy the warm and gracious hospitality of your peoples from both the north and south when I have visited and find that your security forces are very well behaved and maintained. But we are not interested in becoming a little Japan though Japan also has its own charms but admittedly South Korea and North Korea would have been on a much quicker economic development trajectory if not for Japan. We are not so interested in back ending a stream when we are the gateway to the Orient. A few world wars does not change the history of our countries and we always look forward to occasional visits from our distant neighbors but our tropical perspective and cultural ties predicate much of what our growth and development streams are, have been and will continue to be. We will never a large chemical manufacturor for we are more environmentally concerned, we chose when and who develops hospitality on our island for we try to limit those things that conflict with the great and vast spiritual nature of our island. Ship building is not a stream that we need to proceed with in the short term for their are other matters that take precedence and we are well on the way to IT development, We are much more focused on clean industry such as assembly rather than dirty industries such as manufacture. We believe in saving our carbon credits and can possibly offer some for sale as that would be much more along the lines of our future view than creating large carbon expenditures. We would never erode the monuments of our culture and civilization as we have a preservationist mentality.

How far would you go to get what you WANT?????

So I been readin alllllllllllllllll the newspapers and ads that come out for this and next week after the sale adds for the day after thanksgiving. There is this special that I am wanting…..

Its from the 99c Only Store they are offering ipods for 99c only to the first 25 people who go in there the day after thanksgiving. Plus this is the opening day for this store, (it used to be the old kmart) so now im wonderin caus its going to be soooooooooooooooooooooooo cold, and I will have to get a tent and camp out all night long. I KNOW that alot of people from around my nehborhood are tryin to be the first ones there to get the ipods. So I want to know have you had any luck camping out ALLLLLLLLLL NIGHT to get them item that you really want from some big chain????????? Caus i know alot of times i hear bad storys like theres fighting and pushing and stealing and then they say sometimes like “OH WERE OUT SORRY” so im wondering how to do this. do you have any luck with this?????

Houses, cars, everything is not not being sold. People are buying cheaper groceries and holding on to every red cent. Guess that indicates the mood in the nation, you think? Hell, they are offering 2-fer-1 sales on autos in my neck of the woods and nobody is buying. Lock and load. I bought a tent and a camp stove. Have most everything else needed for wilderness survival. When camping…..?

what are some quick and easy recipes for lunch and dinner? We will hit a grocery store on the way up, but then we’re kinda limited. We will be in a camper with electricity, running water, etc. And we also have an outdoor grill. But stores are scarce.

I just want to have everything planned out and accounted for ahead of time if possible. I thought that any recipes and/or advice now would help me next week. Thank you.

I have to teach camp for 3 weeks. Not including weekends. The school the camp is going to be at is really poor so there is no microwaves or fridges so I was wondering if you had any lunch ideas.OH and I don’t want to take a sandwich everyday, and I would prefer no meat but its okay if the recipe calls for it.

What car should I buy for my wife?

I want to buy a safe, comfortable,smooth car for my wife. Her car is getting old, and I want to surprise her. I know she loves Mercedes-Benz, so do I. I currently have a S400 Hybrid and SLS AMG. She previously had a C-class(only because she couldn’t afford a better one). We have twin daughters so she needs a 4 passenger car. The models I was thinking were: E350 Cabriolet and ML450 Hybrid. With the E350 Cabriolet, it might be a little hassle since it only has 2 doors but I think she would appreciate a convertible more than a sedan. We could use a SUV for camping and stuff but idk. Which one is safer? Which one would be better for a lady? For both cars I plan on adding the extra packages and accessories. Which one would you buy for your wife? Or is there any other Mercedes-Benz vehicle?

What to say to kids who “don’t want to work” in school?

I’m at a low-income High School, and if you’ve ever taught at one, you know where I’m coming from. What can I say to kids who sit in class and refuse to work? If they are there because of a court order, or something like that?
I can’t tell them “that’s why you’re in school”, because it’s not. They’re in school because it’s this or boot camp.

What tips/tricks can I use to keep the ice in my cooler for 2 days in Phoenix?

I am going camping. There is no shade and the temp will be high about 115 with a low in the 90′s. In the past I have tried using block ice, not opening the cooler much and using pre-chilled or partially frozen items this gets me about 10 hours of acceptable chill. Past that the beer and food are warm. Ideas?

Working in a daycare/day camp and finding it extremely difficult?

Last week I started working at a daycare. They placed me in with the day camp they offer for school age children during the summer (the kids in the camp are ages 6-11). I’m an ECE major, and I’m used to working with children ages 3-4. I am completely out of my element with these older kids and they know it. I cannot get control over them. I’ve tried not to lose my temper, but I can’t help it. They simply don’t listen to me or take me seriously. All my tricks for teaching, discipline, and dealing with kids are meant for preschoolers and these older kids laughed in my face when I tried my tricks on them. The day camp is understaffed (there are 4 of us for 50+ kids), so I don’t wanna ask them to move me to the younger kids where I’m more comfortable. I don’t wanna ask for too much, being brand new. They need all the people in the camp they can get. The only reason I got the job here was to gain more experience working with the age group I intend to work with in the future, which I am not doing. Once I start school for the fall, I wont be able to work as much. I wont be getting as much experience then. No one even told me there WAS a summer camp there when I got the job, so I had no idea what I was in for until my first day of work. The camp only lasts for the summer, but I really don’t know if I can work with these kids for another month. On my second day, I was left alone with one other co-worker with about 25 kids and one kid accidentally got hurt and had to get stitches in the hospital. I didn’t see him get hurt because I was dealing with 2 kids who were having an argument and my co-worker was dealing with another set of kids who were misbehaving. I think my other co-workers were blaming me and her for the boy getting hurt, but I don’t think I should have been left alone with only one other helper and that many kids on my SECOND DAY. I am so scared that more kids are gonna get hurt under my care because they don’t take me and my directions seriously and I’m going to get in trouble for it. Also, my co-workers mostly socialize with each other and I feel like I’m responsible for all the kids most of the time because they just sit there and talk.

Please, I need help. Do I just need to get used to this? How can I get them to take me seriously? How do I deal with my co-workers leaving me alone when I’m not prepared? How can I discipline these kids without yelling and making them think they’ve gotten to me?
Me and the other girls withhold treats and activities all the time. It doesn’t work. The kids don’t care.
fluflu66 you had some good ideas, but this is a DAY camp I’m working at so some of them weren’t practical (ie, night swims, campfire skits). And unfortunately, I’m not in charge of anything they do, the director makes the schedule. They leave the daycare for a few hours every day to go to the local pool and playground, or to the movies, or on other weekly trips. Thanks for the encouragement though.

I am gonna like go to like a like volleyball camp. It’s like three hours. that must be like long. But I like don’t even like know how to like play volleyball. cheerleadn tips for beginners?

Hey Guys

So I was wondering whether anybody had any tips for a someone new to cheerleading and by this I mean TOTALLY new. I don’t know all that much about the sport except that I’d like to give it a try.

So my first question would be how do I get in shape for cheerleading? I know it’s a pretty strenuous sport so could what would be the best ways to prepare myself for that. Secondly I’d like to know how I could improve and increase my flexibility. Also just for fun any beginner moves or motions would be appreciated too.

Also just so you know I’m not looking to become a really ace champion cheerleading I just want to get involved and have some fun so summer camps and tournaments and stuff will probably be out of the question for me. I’d just like to get some basic moves and cheerleader fitness down pat.

Field Hockey Tips for Beginners?

Field hockey camp starts in 2 days and 8th grade tryouts start soon. I’ve only played for a couple weeks. I was wondering if you had any tips, like how to push pass, how my grip should be, how to dodge… or anything else would be appreciated! What kind of drills should I do to improves my skills?
I also want to know about the positions… like what kind of characteristics a forward, middie, or defensive player should have and tips for what each of them should do? Thanks!

Color Guard tips for beginners?

Okay so my HS has color guard and we are all new at it. But this year for band camp we want to be better. we want to fix our angles and maybe hire a consultant of some kind. We also want to get organized. We want a captian but our teacher has already said no to that. we only have 12 girls on our “squad” but we want to be bigger. Is it possible to have more color guard then band members, bc band has about 30 kids in it. our drum line is 10 of those people and we have 2 drum majors. so really we have 18 actual band people marching. Is that bad? how can we get more people involved? we want to get organized but how?? we also want flag bags, new flags, and new costumes/outfits but we don’t know how to get that kind of stuff. Cheerleading is bbbbiiiggg at our school so is ROTC and Football so many kids think we are the last resolt to get involoved how can we change their minds???

Camping for Divas in Michigan?

So let me preface this question with the fact that I was a girl scout for years and I loved camping. Tents, no electricity, no running water, etc. Now I live in the Ann Arbor Area and some of my friends would like to make the most and have a little vacation before the summer ends. We’ve decided on camping. However, we’re also meeting up with friends from Grand Rapids for a total of 8 people. And some of them are divas. Now even though I don’t consider this to be camping does anyone know of a site in the Lansing area (we’re trying to ideally meet half way with the Grand Rapids group) that would have cabins?? None of us have an RV and we certainly aren’t interested in renting. We could rent one or two (preferably one that would fit the eight of us). And definite benefits would be things like running water, electricity, and air conditioning. Nothing too fancy. Any suggestions or reviews? I’ve been looking at search engines which haven’t been too helpful.

so when I was little I was in this thing called INdian Princesses. The texas chapter. We went to some really cool campsites but I cant remember what they were called or anything like that. They dont have to have cabins but one in particular did have cabins and had this huge drop of a drive to get there but that was all part of the fun. Any great scary stories for 16 and 17 year olds camping?

Hey! So this weekend my friends and I are all camping at my friends cabin. We are sleeping in tents. There are boys and girls (17 of us) all are juniors and seniors. We all want to spook each other out. Some are planning on throwing leeches at each other…boys will be boys. But I really want to fire some crazy scary stories with my best friend. We wanted to do crazy voices and stuff with it. Any good ones you know that aren’t cheesy or too long? It could be a truly scary experience or just something crazy you heard! I want to be able to take a shower, and apparently there are no shower facilities in the park. We were considering a tent, but a rustic cabin or lodge might even be more comfortable. I certainly don’t want any kind of luxury house or cabin. Any suggestions?

Why do parents of sick kids coddle and shelter them? (chronic illness)?

I was born with partial VATER syndrome and have had to deal with sever pulmonary and gastrointestinal issues my entire life. I also have scoliosis and a minor heart condition. I was in the NICU for three months, had a G-tube till I was 9, had a tracheotomy from ages 3 to 9, and spent at least 1/3 of my early childhood in the hospital. But my parents never treated me like I was different and they always explained to me what my condition was and made sure I knew how and when to take my meds. My parents sent me to school and expected me to be well behaved, have manners, and be responsible. Being sick was never an excuse. They also let me be a kid. I ran around at the park, ate dirt, jumped off stuff, played with friends, went to camp, and was allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. As I got older and healthier I was put in charge of my medications and was able to do more things. I went to summer camp (normal away camp with cabins and tents and bugs and all that), work trips (two weeks of hard physical labor), and was expected to go away to college. I will be leaving this fall and majoring in neuroscience.
I see diabetic kids who are 10 and 13 who don’t give themselves their own insulin. I see the parents of a girl who had kidney cancer give her anything and everything she wants. I hear parents talk about how they didn’t let their kids go to camp or play sports; who isolated them to the point that they had hardly any social life. I see parents who fly into a tizzy whenever their kid gets a paper cut. WHY!? This can be nothing but damaging to these children! Why not treat children with chronic illness like any other kid? Camping Cooking Recipe?

I have a girls scout camping trip coming up during the labor day weekend. I’ve volunteered to make homemade dumplings, but a mother has said that it’s too complicated for camping and all meals have to be simple. I’ve decided to have my mom chop everything up the day before and store everything in a few huge ziploc bags and reserve it in the refridgerator. Then at the camping site, i pour everything in a pot, mix, make dumplings, and put them in a pot of boiling water.

If this is still too complicated, could you send me a simple receipe for the camping dinner meal?

P.S. I’m a 12 year old girl on a budget, not a Food Network chef.

Korean Camping Meal for 20 people?!?

so i already asked a question about camping dinner for 20 people, but they were all american food..somewhat..
i want to know if any Korean food can be made for the dinner when we go camping..we’re all Korean, and i think my youth group might like Korean food rather than American food..but who knows? i am just getting ideas for this Friday night when my pastor, his wife and i will get together and brainstorm good dinner menus for the camping trip..

What’s a good vegetable stir-fry recipe for camping?

I’m going to be leaving for a class camping trip in about a week, and it’s my job in my food group to bring food and cook dinner on one of the nights. Since one of the girls in our group can’t eat meat, we’ve decided on a vegetable stir-fry. What would be the best recipe for this? And adding on to that question, how exactly would you cook rice while camping?
Since my state is under a burn ban, I have to use a Coleman stove for this.

1. I am not sure of the sample interviews in the clips are symbolic of the feelings of those in the conserv and tea party movement (they are most of the participants). However, some say that these opinions are the majority opinions of the event. What are your thoughts?

2. After reviewing literature about the event, it was extremely vauge what the agenda was. The literature was very-religious and so was the content of the speeches. I am sure they wanted to restore America. However, there were no specific speeches, seminars and presentations of how they felt America was broken or a strategy of ways to mobilize and fix it. I felt like I was in a gigantic old southern camp meeting/tent revival meeting. Plz enlighten me if you see this differently!

3. The people at the meeting seemed extremely nice and extremely gracious. As a Black guy, I did not feel a target or uncomfortable at all. However, I have to be honest it was a weird and very different environment. Everyone were equal in their hatred of Barak Obama. They all talked as if Jesus was going to comeback tomorrow if Barak didn’t get out of office. They all further seemed to idolize (make idol gods) out of our American monuments. (Yes I believe that they should be HIGHLY respected. However, it seems to have gone beyond that). I saw one lady drink from the pool near the washington Memorial. (She had a very religious experience).

4. LISTEN I AM NOT A TEA PARTIER. I AM A Black GUY FROM THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN! I have lived on the East coast and in Maryland all of my life. This is the first time I have seen so many white people with strange southern accents and stereotypical southern….style (overalls, American flag collared shirts, straw hats with red hankerchiefs, redneck pride attire and etc). I am really trying to understand this experience from another perspective.

I am a guy looking for sewing ideas and resources.?

I learned to sew tents and custom work from a bunch of guys at a job I had. Since then I have made, outdoor gear, backpacks and duffels , hunting and camping gear, archery quivers and targets, etc. I like that it saves me money rather than buying them and I get to custom make things to my needs or modify items I already have.

The problem is I run out of ideas. I can never find a website or book that isn’t about making curtains or handbags and girly stuff. I guess not many guys are into this sort of thing. I would never have been either if it wasn’t for my job. They were all rugged guys that made me feel stupid for not knowing how to sew since you can do so much. They made kites and backpacks and all sorts of stuff cheap.

Its nice to be able to look at army surplus stores for ideas on how to construct something useful, but other than that I don’t have many places to go. Sometimes it takes seeing something to realize I could make it. Any ideas? A website would be great.

How does one deal with being the “whipping boy” of a group of friends?

Around my circle of friends i’m generally the one who is always the but of the joke. I’m fine with most of the stuff that i go through because it’s done with friends and the intention behind it is never anything more that playfully goading. Lately though, some of the acts that my friends target towards me seem to feel very slightly like a personal dig. Throwing snowballs, moving my tent around when we were camping, etc… it can get a bit much at times. They’re decent people (i’m aware of how in denial i sound at this moment) and it’s all laddish fun. But i think i need a better way to deal with this sort of stuff.

I don’t bother retaliating anymore because they see that as a challenge and rise to it in a way i can never best.
What should i do?

I need help with my book?

I’m writing a book but whenever I’m in the middle of writing, I just seem to stop and think it’s no good! Alot of people say it’s great but they’re my friends and family, they’re supposed to say that. This is chapter two. It’s a little long, sorry. What I’m asking is if some of you would read it and tell me what you think. But say your opinions nicely, there’s no nead for sarcasm or rudness. Thanks, here it is:

The image of her brothers waving her good-bye still lingered in her mind like a dark cloud on a clear day. She listened to the forest, full of small and seemingly unnoticeable sounds. The birds conversing with one another, the trickle of the river she followed, the crunch of the forest floor underneath hoofs, even the sound of a leaf falling through the branches. It was like a soft music for only her to listen and admire.
She didn’t know where exactly she was going to go or what she was going to do, just that the nearest town, Marina, was Fira’s first stop. It was getting dark and she stopped to let Mushroom drink water while she looked for a secluded place to camp for the night. Before she left she had packed two tents, three blankets, food for her and Mushroom, and a knife. She had brought two tents in case one was damaged and three blankets in case she got too cold. Wherever she was going, she was prepared for it.
At morning, she filled her belly and fed her horse before packing up and leaving again. Around mid-day she stopped to let Mushroom rest.
“You know, this isn’t so bad.” She mumbled to her friend as she fed her an apple. “Kinda boring with no one else around but it’ll get better.”
She practiced with her bow and arrow while waiting for Mushroom to regain full strength. That’s when she heard a twig snap behind her. She quickly whirled around to face the direction the sound came from, pointing her weapon at the branches of a large tree.
“Who’s there?” She said in a strong and firm voice. When nothing happened she spoke again, walking forward. “I asked a question, don’t make me ask it again. I’m armed and will shoot.” She heard the slip of a boot, cursing, and then saw someone fall out of the leaf covered branches. Fira shot her arrow and hit her target, an arm.
She moved closer and pointed another sharp arrow at what looked like a seventeen year-old boy. Fira looked him over, trying to take in every detail and guess what the heck he was doing. He had black hair, short. A forest boy. He looked strong enough to carry her times three. He wore a deep green tunic and had a brown leather belt around his waist that carried a slingshot and a bag of rocks as ammo. He also had some gloves made out of cloth that covered his palms but not his fingers. He groaned and opened his eyes.
“Ow. Why’d you…why did you…oh man that hurt.”
“I warned you. Maybe if you answered then I wouldn’t have shot you.” Fira lowered her bow. He’s already wounded, he isn’t a threat yet, so why kill him? Plus he’s part of the forest.
He looked at her. “Hey, you’re a girl.”
“Of course I’m a girl! What, you couldn’t tell?” She said, making sure he saw she was annoyed.
“Well sorry! When you fall and hit your head then everything looks kinda funny!” He tried to get up. She pushed him down with her foot. “What are you-“
“You get up and it’s gonna hurt. If I can trust you, then I’ll help fix it. If not, then I’ll make it worse. Understand?” She tried to sound fearsome, her brothers always said she was very compassionate and she didn’t want it to seem like this stranger could take advantage of her.
He laughed a little. “First you almost kill me, then you try to help me. Who are you?”
“Look, do you want me to help or not?”
He thought for a moment and then looked at his arm. “Okay.”

It had taken Fira only a few minutes to find the medicine needed. When she came back, he was humming as if he didn’t have an arrow sticking out of the side of his arm and everything was right with the world.
“Okay, this is going to hurt.”

She pulled the arrow out of his skin, getting her hands covered in fresh blood. He shouted a curse and closed his eyes in deep pain.
“I told you it was-“
“You didn’t tell me what you were gonna do though! Jeez…”
She began to clean his injury and tried to make small conversation. “So. What’s you’re name?”
He looked at her. “I asked you that first a while ago.”
“Oh. I’m Fira.”

Advice on camp song and group game to play?

I have a group setting interview for a summer camp counselor position, and I need to come prepared with a camp song to sing and a group game to play.

I just want some ideas on some easy to sing and well known camp songs, and easy and fun group games.

These should be geared toward kids ages 5-12. Thanks for the help!!!

Why do “military people” think they know a lot about camping?

I see ex-military people answer questions all of the time and they have no freaking clue about backpacking, leave-no-trace concepts, ultralight gear, etc. etc.

Some guy told someone to take Shelter Halfs on a camping trip! WTF? Shelter Halfs!!! You gotta be kidding me. And “Military Ponchos”…like the ones that don’t breathe and you get just as wet with them on than if you didn’t wear one at all?!?!?

And what’s with MREs? These things have to be the most inefficient form of wilderness food I’ve ever encountered. They weigh a lot and they have useless, excess packaging.

Leave combat intended gear for combat and take camping gear for fun….That’s what I say!
Trickem: I’m nothing as far as the military goes, but I’ve been camping and backpacking with many ex-military guys who were lugging aroud ALICE packs and eating MREs. They all think the US Govt. Issued stuff is great until I let them carry my pack for an hour. They’re popping blisters from their combat boots while I’m blister free in a pair of hiking boots.

You couldn’t pay me to use military surplus stuff on a camping trip.
Inar: I think I made it pretty clear that I feel combat intended materials are designed for combat use. I would be just as unlikely to want to carry a .30-06 bolt action rifle with me into combat as I would want to have a .223 M-16 for hunting deer. (That’s NATO 5.56mm for you military types.)

I’m just a bit miffed. Over the past few months I’ve run into a lot of bone-head-ex-military-people giving other camping-novices really crappy info…both on-line and in person.

How do you feel about driving distances these days,and what do you do to lower your costs for the trip?

I have packed lunches and drinks,but that’s an old habit for me.
The car is tuned,tires have air,and I’m about to go empty any unnecessary heavy stuff from the trunk.As it is the kid and his camp gear,my dogs,and stuff have to come along,so I can stay at my sister’s for a night or two to visit and have fun.
Any other suggestions?

We are planning to camp out in the Disney campgrounds with our 2 children (3 and 5) and wanted to know if there are any free things around the campground to do with them. What about the Hay rides? Are those free?

How do you plan your camping trip?

I’ve checked out the area i want to go, (Bruce Peninsula, Ontario) looked at the local attractions, narrowed down to a few campgrounds for tent camping, date is set (Aug20) want to do a driving tour, boat tour, day at the beach, day at the national park, and maybe a few hours in the local town. I feel like all I’m doing is planning, when do I relax, which is what its all about, right? Its just my b/f and I, first vacation together… I guess my question is… how do you organize it all, we still have to borrow/buy all our gear too… maybe I’m just over thinking everything. Last time I went camping, I was a kid and parents did all this stuff for us!

Should I dump my prideful, rude, selfish, and uncompassionate bf?

This weekend, my bf, his kids, my kids, and me went camping. On our way to the campground, he drove really fast didn’t wait for me. Besides that he took us to tubing, him and his kids ditched us on the middle of deep water with a lot of branches on the river. Because my 8 yrs old daughter couldn’t hold on to the big tube and wanted to sit in the cooler carrier after an hour long on the river. My bf and his kids got pitts off that they couldn’t rest their feet on it. While they were over 300 ft ahead of us. Our tubes ran into a huge branches on the deep water, which I can’t swim. They didn’t even bother came to our rescue or even thought of wait for me to see if we were OK. After came to shore, he didn’t ask whether we were Ok. We came back to the campsite his daughter started to nagged at my daughter for what happened earlier at the river. Then my daughter got really upset and call his daughter “brat”. His daughter call my 12 years old daughter “whore”. My daughter came told me and I asked his daughter “why you call her whore?” she said because she called her a terrible name, “brat”. I was really upset at her and her father being such childish and how they ditched us during live and death situation at the river. I said, “you are a brat and your father even said so.” She went told my bf that I call her a brat instead tell the whole story. My bf didn’t buy my side or my daughter’s story. He demand that I should apology to his daughter and yelled at me. I packed all my food and camping gear dumped him at the campground. In the past, his kids lied to his ex-wife that I mistreated them, which was untrue. I was the one cook for them and gave them medicine when they were sick. I was the one that check on them when they not feeling well. When came to my house, I did all the cooking, cleaning, buy all the food, and did all the dishes without them offered any help. On the other hand, my bf used my car all the time for an errands. I know that I shouldn’t say to his daughter about he called “brat” behind her back. While were sitting at the campfire, he even said to his son that he pay child support for them but he doesn’t know for sure that they are his kids, especially his daughter.
